Not Cool

Dr. George Tiller, who performed abortions in Kansas, was shot and killed while serving as an usher at church on Sunday. So far, no charges have been filed, but the police believe they have the right person in custody. After witnesses described the getaway vehicle, police stopped a blue Ford Taurus and arrested the driver.

Thankfully, most people are condemning this act, from Obama to pro-life groups.

"Operation Rescue, which has led numerous demonstrations at Tiller's clinic, called the shooting as a 'cowardly act.' And the National Right to Life Committee, the largest U.S. anti-abortion group, said it 'unequivocally condemns any such acts of violence regardless of motivation.'"

Of course, that doesn't mean the two sides of the debate are going to come together and agree about anything. (Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry, who is no longer affiliated with the group, said: "We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God.") But hopefully most people can agree that this is not the way to approach any issue.

No matter what you think about abortion (or any controversial topic), violence isn't the answer. It just messes up more lives.
