Because the Holocaust Just Wasn't Enough

Apparently anti-Semitism is on the rise throughout the UK, due to Israeli/Palestinian conflicts in the Middle East. In January, there were more than 200 recorded attacks--the highest monthly number since 1984 (when this kind of thing started being recorded).

British lawmaker Denis MacShane, who chaired the country's first parliamentary inquiry into anti-Semitism, said:

"Parliaments now have to acknowledge that anti-Semitism is back. It's a potent ideological force, causing fears to Jews in many different countries, and it has to be combated by all people that care about democracy."

Isn't anti-Semitism one of those things that should be eradicated by now? Like hating lepers? I guess you could say that for all kinds of racism, but really, who wants to be a Nazi?

Obviously, issues in the Middle East suck on both sides, but how are innocent Jews (or innocent people for that matter) responsible for the actions of a foreign government? Kicking someone's ass because they're wearing a yarmulke is not the answer to anyone's problems.

Another quote from MacShane I thought was interesting:

"Whenever anti-Semitism sinks roots, the world is heading in a disastrously wrong direction," he said. "That is a lesson from history. If we don't tackle anti-Semitism in the early stage, then it devours democracy."
