Roam Around the World

Is this what happened to globes when Google Maps was invented? I wonder which ones have the Soviet Union.

The Cross Town Musical
Remember the Shakespearean Tube Map? Now there's a similar subway map for movies. I love these projects!
Click through to get the full map.
Which line do you want to ride on? The Musicals line? The Universally Acclaimed Masterpiece line? The Drama About Tolerance line?

DC Metro Crash

Investigations continue with regard to the DC Metro crash. Apparently the train was in automatic and the brake button had been pushed when it hit the other train. If it was a problem with the computerized system, as opposed to train operator neglect, it wouldn't be the first time:
In this article, survivors and others nearby at the time of the crash describe their experiences. Definitely scary.
" In June 2005, in a tunnel under the Potomac River, a train operator noticed he was getting too close to the train ahead of him even though the system indicated the track was clear. He hit the emergency brake in time, as did the operator of another train behind him. Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith didn't know the outcome of the investigation into that incident, which she called 'highly unusual.'"
Between this and the recent T crash (which occurred because the conductor was texting), I think I'll walk.

I Miss Mood Already

As you probably know, Project Runway is moving from Bravo to Lifetime. I know. The channel with movies like Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? Not exactly something Tim Gunn watches. Well, okay, whatever Lifetime. But now it's also moving from New York to LA? A girl can't handle all that change at once!
About the move:
"LA can be the most laid-back and the most glamorous," Michael said, adding that challenges would include fashion for the red carpet and the beach. "It's the land of bikinis and gowns."
Whatever, Michael! I don't need bikini challenges! I need Parsons!
Also:
"The Southern California location also lent itself to the presence of Hollywood celebs, including Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria Parker, and Lindsay Lohan, who will serve as guest judges throughout the season."
Ugh! Lindsay Lohan! With Tim Gunn?! Don't let Tim stand too close or he might catch fugly!
I am not a fan of these changes. Really, Project Runway probably should have ended last season, especially with Tim as a final judge. Does that mean I won't watch the new season? No. But it'll be a skeptical viewership.

Disturbance on the Villain Line

I would totally ride the Royal Shakespeare Company Metro System. Also, for all the nerds out there, the closer in the stop, the more popular/awesome/moving the character. Pick your favorite line!

Shuffle of the Penguins
Check out the cute ad for public transportation.
I can't tell you how many times a T car full of people has battled a killer whale.

There's No Need to Fear; Underdog is Here!
It's like an eight-year-old's dream come true...sort of.
I think it's great that these people want to help make their cities a better place to live, but is this really the right way to do it? I mean, didn't they see the beginning of The Dark Knight? They are totally going to get hurt someday.
Also, I wish they had superpowers.

All Aboard

Sigh. Oh public transportation. No matter what city you're in, you frustrate your patrons.

Mousetrap

Why is it that in cartoons/children's books, mice are always the heroes and cats are always villains? Mice are gross. They come into your house uninvited, carrying diseases. They want to eat your food. They want to set up shop in your shoes. They want to walk over your face at night. They want you to contract their deadly mouse-feces disease and die so they can eat your rotting corpse. This is not the behavior of adorable creatures. This is the behavior of the worst
Know what they have going for them? The tiny factor. That's not necessarily cute, people! Other tiny things include ticks, the ebola virus, and bedbugs. Not cute!
And they always come back. How can you kill these things? How can you ever escape their wrath? Why do we make them adorable in media? The cats--who kill mice--should be the adorable heroes!
Can you guess what I found in my apartment this morning?
Until they start wearing tiny clothes, speaking English, and making me a new dress, the mice are dead.

It's a Small World After All
And speaking of Abbey Road, check out Michael Hughes's project. He takes pictures of world famous landmarks, but replaces the landmark with its cheap souvenir version.

More Ridiculous Than a Hen Party
For some reason, people can't get enough of the Snuggie. You'd think this would be confined to the comforts of their own home, but some people want to show their Snuggie the world. Some people want to have a drink with their Snuggie. Some people want to have a drink with their Snuggie and lots of other people in Snuggies.
Chicago's a cold city, but a Snuggie Pup Crawl? Seriously?
Wouldn't it be sad if three people showed up and then they were 'those drunk people in Snuggies?' Awkward.
The info:
What: A pub crawl in Chicago wearing Snuggies™
When: Saturday, April 18th
BYO-Snuggie
Important detail, BYO Snuggie. They're not just giving them away!
So, Chicago kids--who's joining them?

Just Look at This, Richard

Quite possibly the best complaint letter ever, sent to Virgin Atlantic after a Mumbai-to-London passenger was unable with his meal. It starts out good and gets even better.
"Look at this Richard. Just look at it.I imagine the same questions are racing through your brilliant mind as were racing through mine on that fateful day. What is this? Why have I been given it? What have I done to deserve this? And, which one is the starter, which one is the desert?"
A problem we've all faced, I'm sure. But wow, this guy comes out with the best metaphor for disappointment I've seen in years. I'm not even going to quote it because it's so great in context. You'll have to read it for yourselves; totally worth it.

Waiting for Public Transportation

This is in Finland, but at first I was sure it would be Boston.
At least winter is lovely to look at.

Urban Art
Check out these amazing cityscapes made from everyday objects. (If you're an artist and make something out of ordinary objects, I'll cheer.) Some favorites below:
Artist Frank Meisler was inspired by ancient maps showing Jerusalem as a circular city. The result is this orb sculpture.
Meanwhile, San Francisco by Zhan Wang is a collection of stainless steel pots and pans.
San Francisco by Liz Hickock is made of Jello! Take that, earthquakes! And I love the glow it has.
