It's Perfectly Normal...to Read

Happy Banned Books Week!

Sept 27-Oct 4 is the ALA yearly celebration of those books that are banned or challenged. Usually these are the very best books--Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Giver, The Color Purple, The Chocolate War, Mark Twain, The Golden Compass, etc. Basically, if you love a book, it's probably been banned or challenged at some point.

(Seriously, how was Lois Lowry one of the most banned/challenged authors of 2007? She's a genius!)

From the ALA website:

"BBW celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them. After all, intellectual freedom can exist only where these two essential conditions are met."

Be free. Read.
