How is the BBC So Good at Adapations?

Okay, usually they're longer than a movie you'd see in the theater, but they're so worth it. The recent Masterpiece Theater version of Jane Eyre just reminded me of how awesome the book is.

Also, Jane Eyre is pretty much the perfect book for a nerdy 14 year-old. It's way angsty--no one understands Jane! except Mr. Rochester!--and Jane isn't one of the pretty, bouncy girls. And it's really dark and creepy. Plus, you love it even more when you return to it years later.

Rock on, Bronte.

A better adaptation of Jane Eyre for my money is the older one with Timothy Dalton which is so close to the book. Also from the BBC in the 1990s.

If you liked this, you've no doubt seen Colin Firth's Pride & Prejudice but have you seen North & South? Probably the best period (romantic) drama the BBC have ever done. Just make sure you watch all four hours in one go and I bet you watch the ending more than once!

I haven't seen North & South yet! Thanks for the recommendation--it's definitely going on my list.
